“You can't do what you don't know, if you keep doing what you do know”

The Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is a means to explore the way you use your body. FM Alexander, the Australian founder of the technique, spoke of the use of the self; meaning the body and mind as an inseparable whole. He recognised that the way you think, feel and organise your body has a fundamental influence on the way you function.
People all over the world use the technique to alleviate persistent aches and pains, manage stress and improve their performance in the world of sport or culture.
To learn the technique you have a series of lessons with a teacher who will give you an actual experience a new way of moving and perhaps a new way of thinking. The teacher uses their hands to guide you through simple movements that are an opportunity to become more aware of the way you move and use your body.
The movements explored in lessons are the building blocks of most actions. As lessons progress, movements relevant to your particular lifestyle are explored. In this way you are supported to use the technique on your own. The technique can be applied to any movement or any skill with long lasting benefit.
To qualify as a teacher of the Alexander Technique a person has to successfully complete a three-year training course. Teacher accreditation, professional development and community support is administered by affiliated professional societies in 15 countries around the world.
