The Central Limb 6 - How the side supports the other

I have created a private Facebook group for our classes. Thank you Christina for the suggestion. It’s called ‘Reflections on experience - Awareness Through Movement’

Search for it by name under ‘groups’ if the above link won’t work. The image below is on the cover page.

I’m not very FaceBook savvy but I think it will be a useful forum for us all. I’ve posted that wonderful Cecilia Bartoli clip we used at the end of the live version of Central Limb 5

This lesson continues with our exploration of the central channel.

We’ll explore the possibility of moving from 6 directions - the four limbs, the head and the pelvis.

The way this pigeon uses its head, tail feathers, legs and wings to land is a good case in point .. as is this cat jumping.

Notice the orientation of the head and the use of the limbs and tail to move into a functional landing position. Also the organisation of the limbs to leap .. and then land.

You can reach out through those limbs but you can also press them together with the same effect .. It’s worth remembering that Simone Biles is travelling backwards in this sequence!

So you’ll need a mini trampoline for this weeks lesson.

ok .. Just kidding ..

The only aerobatics we do will be in our imagination but harnessing the connection between your limbs can create the most wonderful sense of suspension .. finding that still point between the movement in each direction

The sense of connection with everything is available if we can be still .. and take the time to listen .. and perhaps remember that in the long run ..

We don’t have to achieve it all.

It’s the journey not the destination and we will no doubt see many beautiful things on our journey this week.

This blog post relates to the 6th lesson in the Central Limb series. You can find that lesson by clicking here
